Dobashi Daisuke
Daisuke is the cool, calm, collected leader type. He is quite practical and intelligent, but he is often obscured against the colorful cast of PSME. He seems to be less emotional than his last incarnation, but for the most part he is very much the same. Like most scientists, he prefers organization and order.
His moon dreams started when he was quite young, which lead him to have a keen interest in astronomy. On a fieldtrip he met Sakura when the bus almost crashes and she calls out to “Sarjalim” to save her. He learns that she is the reincarnation of Shuseran and the two become friends.
When an article appears in a fringe magazine about some of the other moon scientists looking for the rest of their old friends, he arranges a meeting. The others haven’t had their moon dreams as long as he and Sakura, so he explains the basic story of their life on the moon, including the destruction of their home world and the plague that eventually killed everyone. Alice, Issei, and Jinpachi are understandably upset to learn about tragic the end of the moon people.
He appears to be a man of science rather than faith and wants to analyze their reincarnation in scientific terms. He doesn’t seem to be a disbeliever per say, but he does propose that their reincarnation might be a form of evolution. Rin, pretending to be Shukaido, points out the flaw in all his theories and suggests that science can’t explain all the possibilities, which implies the existence of Sarjalim.
Unlike the others, he won’t give Rin his keyword. In fact, he is quite adamant about people not discussing the keywords at all. He yells at Jinpachi every time he brings the subject up. Eventually Rin uses his powers to hold Daisuke’s brother under water until he gives up his password. Rin suggests that he isn’t simply following official protocol but that he feels guilty about his performance as leader.
When Rin accesses the moon base and finds that it is already destroyed, Daisuke finally gets to put the past behind him. The group remains friends and he goes to college, most likely to major in his old field.
Hiiragi
Hiiragi is almost as forgotten as his counter-part Daisuke. He is something of a comedian and tends to make funny faces to make people laugh. Still, he lacks a certain amount of imagination. For instance, his password is just his name. He and Mokuren are the only two that didn’t know the others before being sent on the mission. He is the linguist and the leader of the group.
He is an able leader and does his best to maintain order on the moon. Unfortunately he faces the challenge of dealing with some very complicated people and their relationships. Order is very hard to maintain as Shion starts demanding that they go to Earth when their own world is destroyed. Going to the Earth could be disastrous because their advance technology (and indeed their very presence) could disrupt the people there. He makes the final decision not to go to Earth. The point of contention leads to conflict and eventually Mokuren’s rape.
Before they can carry out Shion’s punishment (which is banishment), everyone starts getting sick. He blames himself for everyone dying on the moon base because he would not go to Earth. How can he claim to be a leader when he couldn’t even protect his people from a plague. He dies after Gyokuran and Shuseran and is eventually reincarnated as Daisuke.
