Nishikiyori Issei
Issei is a boy and Jinpachi’s close friend, but he has the soul of Enju (a woman) who had been in love with Gyokuran (Jinpachi's former incarnation) which leads to some rather sticky situations. Enju wanted to remain close to her love, but knew she couldn’t do so as a woman. Still, Issei feels her love for Gyokuran and can do very little about it.

Issei and Jinpachi share dreams because Enju had been a telepath and one day Alice overhears one of their conversations about a particularly strange dream. Not knowing the context of their conversation, Alice thinks that they are talking about being gay. When they meet her at the zoo with Rin, they explain their shared dreams and both Alice and Rin first hear about the moon base that they will soon remember.

Issei is much more quiet and reserved than Jinpachi and is better at hiding his feelings except, of course, for feelings he wishes to hide— Enju’s remaining love for Gyokuran/Jinpachi. He does strike one as being rather feminine, mostly because he is delicate and pretty and his personality is so much like Enju’s.

When Alice decides that she doesn’t want to remember her life as Mokuren, Issei is supportive of her. He also doesn’t want his life to be dominated by the control of a woman who died on the moon. Jinpachi doesn’t understand, but his former incarnation was never really good at understanding Enju either. Issei drops out of the group as well, but comes back in as Shion’s activities pull everyone together.

His struggle becomes obscured by Alice’s struggle to remember her life as Mokuren and Shion’s plot to get the moon base codes. Eventually he does get over his feelings for Jinpachi and gets engaged to his friend Sakura, who was Shuseren in her past life. He remains close to Jinpachi as a friend, just an Enju wished.
