Folken Lacour de Fanel is the oldest of the brothers and the one who was to become King. His failure and incorporation into the Zaibach Empire eventually lead him to clash and eventually return to his dear brother.

Folken is a handsome man of about 25, tall with a long face. Although his spiky blue hair and long black cloak are both impressive, the purple tear on his right cheek automatically draws the eye's attention. Other notable features include the tattoos around his eyes, a mechanical right arm, and a broad pair of black wings on his back. His eyes are red like Dilandau's, but without the firey rage behind them.

He was still young when his father died, a father he loved and looked up to, yet it was his duty to become the new king. He went to perform the rite, to kill a dragon, but the dragon ripped off his arm instead. He laid there, prepared to die, but the dragon spared him. Staring in the eye of the dragon, he learned what Van had already told him-it is cruel to kill dragons. Still, he was losing blood rapidly and would surely die, but technology saved him and gave him a new multi-functional if unhuman arm, but he wasn't the same. He had failed and could never return. His dedication now turned to the Zaibach empire and a vision of a world without war at any cost. The wings used to be white like Vans, but one can only alter fate so much before it wears on the person.

He honestly believes that Lord Dornkirk's plan will bring peace to this land, even at the high cost of lives. He knows what war does, and he doesn't want people to suffer any longer than they have to. Isn't peace worth dying for? Perhaps, but Van and his friends certainly don't see it that way, and it seems that in the end Folken doesn't either. No matter how noble your cause, if you plan to mess with the lives of others and don't have their consent, you are wrong.

Folken is very intelligent, quickly catching on to the technology of the Zaibach empire and becoming a high ranking official. His intelligence is eclipsed only by his kindness and gentility, but his end must be achieved, even at the cost of innocent lives. He uses those who love him dearly, but he is never cruel, just cold. Still, his love for his brother lingers and he tries to bring him to his side. Eventually the sacrifice made by Nariya and Eriya allow him to return to his brother's side.

Still his days are numbered. He takes Hitomi at her request to the Zaibach empire and challenges the leader, Dornkirk. However, action and reaction reach maximum and he is killed as well, much to the despair of Hitomi who had grown to like him a great deal.

In the end, his image is seen happily holding his catgirls, all falsities absent, with a kind, genuine smile on his face.
