Miyuki-chan In the Wonderland
A Summary of Karen's Role in the Short Manga Story
Miyuki-chan in the Wonderland is an early seven part series by CLAMP which features a young woman named Miyuki-chan. Through various contrivances, Miyuki is transported from her seemingly ordinary world into strange worlds with only women. In each world, the female characters find different reasons to undress a very shy and reluctant Miyuki. In a sense, it could be read as a parody of those stories in which the primary motivation of the writers is to undress the female lead.
In the seventh and final installment of the series, Miyuki-chan is watching the movie X in the theatre. Suddenly Kotori, who is hanging on the cross, calls out for Miyuki to help her. Miyuki is pulled into the screen and ends up in the world of X. Hinoto begs her to become a Dragon of Heaven, but Kanoe tells her she should become a Dragon of Earth, while groping her. She gets away from them, but ends up finding Satsuki who attacks her with wires. Miyuki cries that she isn’t doing very well in the world of X when she hears a voice saying, “Ah, a new employee.” Miyuki is pleased to see Karen, who is wearing a lovely, black negligee, but her delight turns to shock when Karen undresses her, mistakenly believing her to be a new employee at the Bath House (never mind that she is clearly underage). As Karen unbuttons Miyuki’s bra, she exclaims, “Oh! What cute rabbit panties! But it’s not the ideal attire for you to work here…” Looking down on her very cute negligee, Miyuki cries, “I will never be able to get married!” Suddenly Arashi appears and uses her sword to cut Miyuki’s new clothing to shreds, leaving her generally naked. She begins to fall and Yuzuriha suddenly appears (upside down) and offers her some pocky. Miyuki goes to take it, but suddenly realizes how naked she is as huge images of Hinoto and Kanoe surround her. Suddenly she wakes up in the movie theatre, thinking her adventure is over, but then she looks up and sees that she is now tied to the cross instead of Kotori.
Karen’s role in the story is really small and more than a little silly, but that is the nature of the work. Anyone taking Miyuki-chan in the Wonderland seriously might need to have his or her head checked. Karen’s scene is kind of cute and it certainly makes more sense than Arashi suddenly cutting off Miyuki’s clothes for no apparent reason. I highly recommend looking up the series if you want a good laugh.
