Hokuto is Subaru's bubbly, loving, dedicated sister. Some see her as strange, silly girl while others see her as a foolish, selfish bitch. Still, one could consider her actions a heroic attempt to protect her brother even after death, so he could have a second chance.
Sure, Hokuto acts immature at times. She's loud and silly, frequently making her brother blush because of her behavior. The clothes she wears are outlandish, but also bold and vibrant like her. She dresses Subaru in her fashions as way of sharing her courage with her shy brother. Although they probably make Subaru a bit uncomfortable, even his hesitant willingness to wear them is a sign of his devotion to his sister.
Although she acts silly, she is quite intelligent and mature. While her brother is shy, she is both strong and brave and constantly watches out for her dear Subaru. Her loyalty is unshakable and her affection as deep as any sister has ever had for her brother. If she scolds him, it is only for his own good, as she is more practical than her idealistic twin is (though this doesn't apply to her sense of fashion ^^). She is a good judge of character, even though she trusted Seishirou despite doubting his sincerity. Despite being less naïve than her twin, she was still shocked by his betrayal.
When she sees how broken her brother is, she knows that she must protect him. He is the prey of a deadly predator, marked for death many years ago. She desires only to give her brother another chance at live and perhaps even love so she sacrifices the only thing she can-her own life. She took his place as the victim and preformed a curse which would save her brother. If Seishirou tried to kill him, he would be killed instead. Was this a selfish act? If he could allow Subaru to live, he would live as well, but that's not Seishirou's style is it? She still liked him even after all he had done, and that is why she told him about the curse.
It crushed Subaru, but he is still alive and he has the second chance Hokuto so desperately wanted him to have. If he will take it is purely up to him, but it's hard to say if his heart is that resilient.
