Kamui is the one who will battle to decide the future of the Earth and mankind. He is also a boy who has been betrayed by his best friend who might have even been his love.

The people he wishes to protect, Fuuma and Kotori, are both involved in the promised day. Fuuma is the other Kamui who will take the opposite position of Kamui, and Kotori is a dream gazer who Fuuma kills. With everyone who mattered to him gone, Kamui faces a world of darkness, and Subaru enters his consciousness to help him. He faces Kamui's defenses but refuses to hurt him. He tells him his story and tells Kamui that he has a choice to make. He can stay or return, for the sake of his wish.

The two have been close since the beginning, due largely in part to their similar situation. They empathize with each other and are comrades, but could it possibly be more? Seishirou is dead and Subaru has to face a future without him. If he allows himself to heal, perhaps he and Kamui can find comfort in each other.

Granted his love for Seishirou is deep, and nothing can change that. Of course, there are many different ways to love other people, even romantically. He could never love Kamui like Seishirou, but that doesn't mean that he can't love him equally.

Will they become a couple? No. Do I think they make a cute couple? Yes. They both deserve a love not complicated with hatred, and they both deserve solace from the misery of heartbreak. Who better to provide peace in the struggle to find peace, than two boys who have experienced similar miseries? Either Kamui will have to kill him or Fuuma will do it. I doubt young Subaru will survive this series.
